Should I build a website or just use Instagram and Google listing?

When Instagram and a Google listing are enough, and when a site starts to earn its keep for a Delhi shop.

Use Instagram and a Google listing if that is already how people find you and they can already see hours, a phone, and a way to write. Build a website when they keep asking in DMs for fees and a trial, because that is the page they want to open without another message.

That is the honest split for a shop in Delhi NCR. Plenty of gyms and salons live on Instagram. That is not a failure. A site starts to earn its keep when the feed and the pin cannot hold the thing they came for.

Instagram as discovery

A gym in Saket or a salon in Greater Kailash can get a full week from reels, stories and a DM. If someone already found you there, already saw the work, and already wrote, you do not need a new channel to prove you exist.

The next step is where the feed fails the people I sit with. The fee is buried in a highlight. The trial is a voice note. Saturday colour prices change and the caption does not. The person who wants a number without a chat leaves, or they write, and the message sits until you wash off or finish a set.

If you already answer those DMs the same day, stay there. A site that repeats the feed and then asks them to message you anyway is not a better Instagram.

The listing is for hours and the pin

A Google listing is what someone opens when they type the area and the trade. Hours, the phone, the door. Google’s own notes on local ranking say complete, accurate information makes a profile more likely to show. They also say there is no way to pay for a better local rank.

If the listing still has last year’s Sunday hours, that is the first fix. If the pin is a floor above you, that is the first fix. If nobody has claimed it, claim it. Whether a Google listing is enough is the closer question when you do not have a feed either.

I have not seen a listing that holds a colour menu the way a page can. It will hold the hours. Keep those true. A pretty site with a dead listing still looks closed on Sunday.

When the site is the thing they open

You feel this on a Thursday night. Someone wants fees, what you do, and a button. They do not want another DM.

A salon in Rajouri Garden still gets “how much for a global” at 11pm. A gym in Dwarka still gets “quarterly fee and a day pass” while you are spotting someone. If that thread is the week, a page that states the number and takes the trial is the job.

The websites work starts at Rs 30,000 on the pricing page. That is a build floor, not a quote, for a fast, mobile first site. Usually under two weeks for a site. You hold the domain login, the host, and the files.

It is not a brochure of the feed. If the page takes a wait longer than they will sit on a phone, they will not use it for fees either. People leave after three seconds. Clinic pages in the set I timed usually spend a wait longer than they will sit arriving. A slow fees page is a page they never reached.

WhatsApp is not the site, and it is not the listing

Many shops already talk on WhatsApp. The WhatsApp Business app is a free download for a small business, with a profile that can list an address, an email and a website. That helps the chat look like the shop. It does not replace hours on Maps, and it does not replace a page someone can open without writing you.

If Instagram is where they find you, WhatsApp is where they write, and you still have no page for fees, the hole is the page. If they write and nobody answers, the hole is the inbox. Do not buy a site to fix a phone that rings out.

What I will not tell you

I will not tell you that every shop needs a site. I will not tell you a site will bring more walk ins. Whether a website will bring more customers is the page that refuses a lift figure. The feed cannot invent demand either.

I will not invent a conversion rate from DMs to trials. Count your own week. How many people asked for a fee. How many booked. That is your number.

A site has a downside I will not hide. You have to keep the hours and the fees true. A page with last year’s quarterly fee is worse than no page.

What to do this week

Write down where the last ten enquiries came from, and what they asked next.

  • If they found you on Instagram and booked in the chat, leave the site alone.
  • If they found you on Maps and the hours were wrong, fix the listing.
  • If they asked for fees and a trial without another DM, you want a page.

The first useful spend is often not a new site. Read the cheapest thing that actually works before you spend the floor.

If the same three questions keep coming, and they want a page, not a chat, that is the site. Then get in touch. A short call. What they ask, what you already have, and whether the listing hours are even today’s. I will say if Instagram is still enough, or I will say the page is the hole and stop guessing.

The ones people actually ask.

Is Instagram enough if that is how people already find me?

Yes, if they can already see the work, get a reply the same day, and book from that chat. If that is already how they found the work, stay there. It is a poor place to park fees and a trial for someone who does not want to send another message.

What is the Google listing actually for?

Hours, the phone, the pin, and the name on the door. Keep those true. A listing is a poor place to park a fee table or a colour menu, and you cannot pay Google for a better local rank.

When is the site the thing they open?

When they want fees, timings and a trial without another DM. That is a page, not a highlight and not a voice note.
