AI voice calling: what are the real pros and cons before I spend money on it?

The real upsides and the real limits of a voice agent on a small business line in Delhi NCR.

The pros are a pickup mid appointment, the usual questions, a booking, a transcript, and no voicemail. The cons are hang-ups, a list it will not guess beyond, no full restaurant order, and a monthly running cost that is not a published figure.

That is the honest sheet for a dental clinic or a restaurant line in Delhi NCR. Read it before you spend. What a voice agent is is the shorter definition. This page is the trade.

What it actually does

An AI voice agent sits on the business number. It talks like a calm receptionist. It opens by saying it is an assistant. Hours, the door, a price, a booking: those come from your list. You get the transcript after the call. It never sends anyone to voicemail.

The upside is the hour you are already in the chair or on the floor. A filling. Saturday service. The phone still rings. Someone who wants the next slot after 6, or a table for four at 8:30, or whether you are open on Sunday, gets an answer from the list you already give a new desk person.

The booking can go into the diary you already trust. If that diary is digital, the agent writes there. If it is a notebook, we start by putting every phone booking in one list the floor can see. Two people cannot take the same slot because nobody heard the call.

You are not listening to voicemail at 10pm. You are reading what they asked. That is a real change to the week, and the whole of the upside. I will not add a claim about more patients or a better rank. Those depend on the area, the reviews, and whether the unusual caller still gets you.

The honest limits

Hang-ups happen when the caller wanted a person. I will not tell you the voice is so warm that the question never comes up. It says what it is. A few callers want a person and will try the next shop. Weigh that against the calls that currently die.

It guesses nothing off the list. A patient who asks whether this pain can wait until Monday will get a message taken, not a diagnosis. A diner who asks for a long substitution that is not written down will get a message, not a yes. If most of your line is that kind of call, the agent is the wrong spend.

It does not replace a person for unusual calls. Receptionist or a voice agent is the page for that fork. A busy clinic may need both. A quiet one may need neither.

It will not see the walk in, calm a row at the host stand, or chase a review. If you need the line to pretend it is you, do not buy this. The honesty is part of the product.

A restaurant is a different job

Tables, hours, whether you take walk ins, Jain or no onion if that is already a rule, a name and a time. That is a reservation line. A full order across a menu is not.

I will say so if what you want is the kitchen ticket. That job is larger, messier, and not what the voice floor is for. A restaurant in Khan Market that wants the Saturday 8:30 table taken off the pass is the job I mean. A restaurant that wants the whole menu read back, paid, and sent to the kitchen is not.

A clinic is closer to the list. Fees, slots, directions, whether you take walk ins. The unusual clinical call still comes to you. Do not expect the agent to do the dentist’s talking.

What the money is

The build floor is Rs 25,000 on the pricing page. That is the build, not a salary, and not the monthly running cost. I have not published a monthly figure on this site. What a voice agent costs to run each month is the page for that question.

If keeping the line needs a billed number or a model, I name that cost before I start, and what it costs to keep it running. You own the work.

I will not tell you the floor pays for itself in a month. I cannot see your missed calls, your close rate, or your ticket from here. You can multiply those if you want a payback story. I will not invent the inputs.

Whether to spend it

Spend it if the week is usual questions during an hour you cannot pick up, and you can write the answers down. Do not spend it if you want a person at the door, a full restaurant order, or a line that hides what it is.

Write one week of the phone. What they asked. How many times it rang out. How many of those questions sit on a card. If that card is the week, the agent is in range. If the card is empty because every call is a special case, hire, or return the log yourself.

Then get in touch. Bring one week of the phone: what they asked, how many rang out. I will say the pros still hold for your line, or I will say the cons are the week and stop selling you the build.

The ones people actually ask.

Will it sound like a robot?

It sounds like a calm receptionist and it says up front that it is an assistant. That honesty is the point. It is also why some people hang up.

Why do some callers hang up?

Because they heard it is an assistant and they wanted a person. I will not tell you that never happens. Weigh it against the calls that currently die in voicemail.

Can it take a full restaurant order?

No. It can hold a table, tonight's hours, and whether you take walk ins. A full order across a menu is a different job.
