Are chatbots actually useful, or do customers just close them?
When a chatbot on a site or WhatsApp is useful, and when people close it because it loops.
Yes, people close them when they loop. They are useful when they answer the same three questions from a list you wrote, price, timings, walk ins, and they are a waste when they stall or guess.
A gym in Saket and a salon in Greater Kailash already get those three after 10pm. The person who wrote is not hanging around for a bot that asks them to rephrase. They close it and message a friend, or they call the shop that replies in one line.
When people close them
People close a chatbot because it wasted a minute. That is the honest reading. It is not because customers hate chat. It is because the last three bots they met asked for a name, then asked the same question again, then offered a menu that did not contain the thing they typed.
I have no figure for how many people close a widget. I have not sat on every phone in Delhi NCR with a stopwatch. I will not invent one. You can see it in your own week: the thread that goes quiet after the bot says it did not quite get that.
A looping bot is worse than no bot. No bot means the message sits until morning. A looping bot means the person tried, got stuck, and now thinks you are the kind of shop that cannot answer a simple fee. That is a real downside of what NexBuilt sells if a loop gets shipped.
The AI chatbots page already says the job. It reads your prices, timings and services and answers from those. A guess is a loop. A hand-off is the job. If that is not true on your number, the bot is not doing the job.
When they are useful
Useful means the same three questions, answered from a list you wrote, at the hour you are not looking at the phone.
- What is the fee, or what does a cut cost.
- What are the timings, including Sunday and Holi.
- Do you take walk ins, and is there a chair or a trial tomorrow.
A gym membership question at 10pm is that list. A salon colour price after closing is that list. A dental clinic asking whether you take walk ins on Saturday is that list. If you already type the same reply twenty times a day, that reply can live in chat.
It is useful on WhatsApp if that is where the pile already is. It is useful on the site if people actually open the site. WhatsApp or a website chatbot is the choice of where to start, not a reason to buy both on day one.
It can book a slot when the rule is written down. Can a chatbot book clinic appointments is the longer answer. If the rule lives only in someone’s head, write it down first. The bot will not invent chair times for you.
What the floor covers
Chat starts at Rs 15,000. Floor, not a quote, on pricing. It is for chat on the site and WhatsApp that answers the usual questions and books a slot where you have a rule. Yours can sit above it if the diary is messy, or if the same answers have to live in more than one language.
The starting prices are for the build. If hosting, a model, or a billed number has to stay in your name, I say so, and what it costs to keep it running. You own it.
I will not tell you that a chatbot pays for itself in a month. Whether the next message becomes a booking still sits with your road, your reviews, your hours, and whether a human takes the leftover thread. The bot can only answer what you already know.
What it will not do
It will not replace the person at the front desk. The swollen face at the door still needs you. The gym trainer who is spotting someone should not also be writing fee structures at midnight. The bot takes the midnight fee. The trainer still does the tour.
It will not keep a customer who wanted a voice. Chat versus a phone call is not a contest with a winner. People who want to hear a person will still call. A midnight WhatsApp will not sit until the desk opens. Different holes.
It will not sound clever when the list is empty. If you have not written the Holi hours, it should not guess them. Guessing is how you get a one star note that says the bot lied about Sunday. A restaurant full order and a parent who wants a counsellor still come to you.
What to do with yours
Write down the three questions that land after 9pm. Write the answers you already give. If that list is clear, you are in the floor’s neighbourhood. If the list is that it depends, ask Neha, you are not ready for a bot, and I will say so.
Then get in touch. Show me one thread that looped. I will say whether chat is the hole, or I will say the pile you have is fine and stop bothering you. Call, or write.
